On Saturday, June 3, 2023, members of the Vulkan Society embarked on a trip to Klagenfurt. The weather in Bele Vode was rainy and gloomy. At 7 a.m., we set off from Bele Vode with an almost full bus. We picked up the remaining members along the way, and the bus was packed.
After a little over 2 hours, we arrived in Klagenfurt, where our Slovenian-speaking guide Martha and beautiful weather awaited us. We started with a guided tour of the city center. After the tour, we had free time for coffee, shopping, or independent exploration. Then, we set off on a 4-kilometer walk from the city center, along the Lend Canal, to the lake. We could admire beautiful houses, landmarks, and exciting bridges along the canal. The most famous stone bridge is over 500 years old. It took us about an hour of leisurely walking to reach Minimundus. Our bus awaited us, and we headed towards the Island of Maria Wörth. We visited two beautiful churches and a well-maintained cemetery. The view of the lake was also stunning. Our next stop was Velden, a famous resort town on Lake Wörthersee. On the way there, our guide showed us where the bus could stop very close to the lake so that we could dip our feet in the water. In Velden, Martha told us some interesting facts about this glamorous tourist destination and the Schlosshotel, which has served as a backdrop for numerous TV series and movies. We also took some obligatory group photos. Our journey then took us to Pörtschach. The town is known primarily for its beautiful flower promenade and well-kept beaches. We also walked along the lake, had coffee and ice cream, and admired the beauty of the turquoise-green Lake Wörthersee. Time ran mercilessly, and it was time to head back to Slovenia slowly.
We said goodbye to Martha along the way and headed towards Kotlje, where dinner awaited us at the Dular Inn. The dinner was plentiful and delicious. Satisfied, pleasantly full, and tired, we set off toward Bele Vode. We arrived home late in the evening. Good company, Klagenfurt’s culture and history, and Lake Wörthersee’s beauty made it a wonderful day. The weather was also charming, sunny, and hot. We are already looking forward to the next trip.
